Ophthalmology

An ophthalmic examination is far more thorough than the quick look into the eye during a routine vet visit: with a slit lamp, ophthalmoscope and special measuring devices, changes can be detected that are invisible to the naked eye – often before your pet shows any symptoms.

That is why every treatment starts with a complete examination: a vision test, checking the pupillary response, the highly magnifying slit lamp, a look at the retina, measurement of intraocular pressure and tear production, and a staining test of the ocular surface. Where necessary, we add an examination of the drainage angle, an ocular ultrasound or a retinal function test. How this examination works in detail is shown step by step with photos in our knowledge base article Die Augenuntersuchung (in German).

The slit lamp is part of every ophthalmic examination – it magnifies like a microscope and reveals even the smallest changes.
